Christina Johnston

Based in London, Christina Johnston studied Fine Art in Liverpool and at Falmouth School of Art. Drawing is an important element of her work, and she uses gesso because of its traditional pedigree, combined with modern pigments and inks. Christina's work is an investigation of the positions human beings place themselves in, physically, emotionally and intellectually, within the world they inhabit. She explains: 'References are drawn from any part of the environment, whether natural or man-made, acting as touchstones and conduits in creating as much as possible alive experience on a two-dimentional plain. Temperal manipulation is important to me, and part of my aim in painting is to bring about something tangible in response to sublimating my own experience with the inherent struggle one has with the act of painting itself.'
