Jill Barrow

Jill Barrow's interest in photography has led her to undertake a number of professional courses to discover the technical side of the art. Jill is drawn towards the abstract in her work, focusing on images with strong colour patterns and contrasts. She is particularly fascinated by the beauty of everyday objects, such as a piece of corrugated metal, or a rusting nail. By focusing on man-made materials which usually go unnoticed, Jill brings a unique perspective to the subjects she chooses, thus encouraging the viewer to question what they are looking at. The images featured are mostly based on objects in the collections of Threlkeld Mining Museum in the Lake District, where Jill has spent many hours studying anonymous items and experimenting with different photographic techniques. The resulting images capture the quality in detail, texture and form of the subject, and their visual interpretation by the photographer into arresting and imaginative abstract forms.
