Joanna Morgan

Joanna Morgan brings together landscape, light and movement using photography, inspired by painters of the Romantic period such as Constable, Girtin and Turner in their treatment of these elements. To create these images, she returned to the locations where the artists themselves once stood, to record the same scenes with her own interpretation. By keeping the shutter of the camera open for a second as it pans the landscape, a streaking effect is achieved, similar to a painter's brush. Joanna explains; 'These images were not intended to portray the world as it first appears, but to reveal it in a new way, using the photographic process. Playing with the elements of light and movement, the images emit an extraordinary energy and sublime beauty, creating a romantic feel that reflects the mood of the landscape'. Joanna's work is also influenced by the sublime seascape photography of Hiroshi Sugimoto.
