Lucia Smith

Art has always been important to Lucia Smith, who over the years has responded to the challenges of grey skies in Yorkshire, big skies in the low undulating landscape of Staffordshire, city skylines in the Midlands and dazzling colours around Australia. She now works predominantly in soft pastel, often with an under-painting either in watercolour or acrylic, on a textured, primed surface to enjoy the intense build-up of pastel that it allows.

Lucia adds; "I have always loved the Yorkshire Dales - their timelessness, their hugeness, their solidity under our varying skies. I carefully chose palettes to portray mood and feeling. My aim is to offer scenes which uplift, full of light and colour and sense of place - scenes that, at any second, might change as the wind blows the clouds across".
